What is education?
That is a 'loaded' question..
Education is learning. Life learning. It is not just limited to the school education we get - Math, Science, Literature, etc., or the grade we get. Education is much more than that. Education is the learning we conduct and achieve in our lives. It is give and take. It is a two way street. We gain from education when we partake ideas, thoughts, knowledge, opinions, experiences.
In our world, the value of education seems to be going down. Of course, this is my perspective.
Education in its today's forms (aka school, college, etc) has become something that is competitive, and cut-throat. Healthy competition is always necessary. However, it should not hinder education. This might seem a bit perplexing. Shouldn't we be able to compete in order to measure what we have learned? Shouldn't we have something to compare against? Shouldn't we have a system where we know if we get an A, B, or C? Of course this is necessary in order to measure. Measurement is extremely important when it comes to learning. How else can we differentiate someone who works hard and someone who is absent? However, measurement is not necessary in order to learn. What I mean by saying this is simply this: Education loses its value when it is all about the measurement -- because if all a student cares about are the grades, then the purpose of education can be forgotten.
Education needs to be looked at from the broader perspective. It is the learning, the experiences, the knowledge, and much more. We learn from our mistakes as much as we learn from successes (or more). Education needs to be valued for what it is, than what we perceive it to be..
